Every passing year we acquired lessons and realizations where the choice is ours whether to take them into the next coming year to guide and remind us or not. I’m not good at keeping up with new year’s resolution but 2016 has given me pretty incredible lessons to accompany me this 2017.
Here’s a list of 17 lessons to take into 2017:
Affirm yourself day by day. Think good thoughts about yourself and take action to do what you really want.
Men cannot take away what they never gave you. Your identity came from your Creator, and the fact that you are accepted, loved, and beautiful cannot be taken away by men who never gave these to you — not even your circumstances and trials.
Complacency will kill you. It’s not okay to settle for less than what you deserve. It’s not okay to stay stagnant in your current situation because you are anxious to change where you will grow more. It’s not okay to let the opportunity slips through your grasp thinking you don’t deserve it. Don’t reject change. Challenge yourself. Take risks. Step out of your comfort zone. Never stop growing as you try and learn new things.
Don’t wait until you’re older to travel and chase your dreams. Don’t hold off on your dreams waiting for the perfect point in the future.
Chase your dreams, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Focusing on your goal and not on perfectionism will help you stay motivated. Enjoy the process as you grow and meet your dreams.
Get out of your bed and have a social life!
Plan out your day ahead and reward yourself for accomplishing your tasks. Keeping a planner helps you keep on track on your priorities and is the best way to beat procrastination.
Choose courtship over dating.
Empty yourself and surrender to God. Only when He is truly in the first place are we ready for a God-written love story.
Do not just believe God, trust Him. Do not just believe what He can do, but trust what He can do. Put your confidence and trust in Him all the time.
Do not build a good reputation but a good character. Putting more value on your reputation and other’s opinions before your character brings you anxiety and insecurity. But if you take good care of your character first and foremost, your reputation will take care of itself.
Do not participate in office gossip. If you fail, learn to exit the conversation.
Take care of yourself. Drink a lot of water and go exercise!
Let go of people God wants to take out of your life. No matter how much you want to control things/people around you — you need to surrender them, let them grow and change.
It’s okay not to feel okay sometimes. Don’t stop your tears from falling.
Prioritize yourself and your family over your job and anything else on this earth. Spend time and money to date your parents and siblings.
Start saving money for your future and seek to be a better steward. It’s your responsibility to invest your money wisely for God will not entrust you with more until He can trust you with what you already have.
