TANAY ESCAPADE PART 1: DARANAK FALLS

I was going through my drafts when I stumbled upon this unfinished post about my one day adventure with my friends. I thought about not sharing this due to lack of good picture shots, but I have to make up my mind and think that it’s not about the pictures, but memories I have with my friends that worth sharing.

This adventure was one month ago with my college friends. On 15th of November, before my birthday, I and my former college friends decided to go on one-day trip to Tanay, Rizal. We are five birthday celebrants in the group this November, so despite our busy schedules, we’ve decided to take a break and experience an adventure together.

Our first destination was Daranak Falls, one of the great destinations of Tanay, Rizal. Our call time was 3:40 am, but our unfamiliarity with the route resulted in 3 hours of drive. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the moment during the drive with nonstop laughing and teasing. We missed each other after a year.

Daranak Falls is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. We arrived at 7:30 am. We had our breakfast inside the van while waiting to open the resort at 8 am. We paid for an entrance fee of Php 50.00 each and rent a picnic hut for Php 300.00. We parked the car around P20-P50. It’s very affordable to anyone craving for an adventure like this.

I felt the rush of excitement to reach the waterfall as we got inside and saw the bridge before getting there. When I scanned the place and reached the falls — I witnessed how wonderful it is.  The majestic beauty of waterfall captured my eyes. I fell in love with the sounds of water splashing down the cliff — it’s so perfect.

Falls is still not yet crowded when we came there, but you’ll see that there were already people in the falls as early as 8 am. The waterfall is divided into two — the shallow part with 3-6 ft and the deeper part with approximately 15 feet high separated by a rope. There’s also a cliff diving site for people who want to challenge themselves.

I didn’t plunge into the cold water that much and swim freely because I felt uncomfortable staying. I was happy enough to see my friends happy and enjoying the moment together. My favorite spot, however, is the mini waterfall which I absolutely enjoyed.

I wasn’t able to take many pictures as I can because I don’t have my smartphone with me. (my bad!) And I found SLR too big and tiring to bring everywhere I go, so I needed to leave it in my bag and enjoy the falls. Sigh!

We stayed longer at the rocky and shallow area of the river.  To walk across the fast-flowing stream with slippery rocks under the water — is truly an adventure.  I can’t help screeching whenever there’s a deep area where my feet and legs feel something different. Haha

One of the birthday celebrants brought food for all us. Haha! Note that there’s also a canteen inside where you can buy food, essential items, and souvenirs. It’s still ideal to bring food on your own. After lunch, I went straight to the shower room for P10.

After chilling, catching up, taking photos, and observing people around, we left Daranak falls at 12:30 pm.

I would recommend the place to people craving to escape Metro Manila for a while. Especially those working people who need a break and a time to unwind and relax.

Truly, the natural beauty of Daranak Falls will leave you amazed by God. He is amazing, so his creation. I am hopeful that every one of us takes charge of preserving the beauty of nature, let’s enrich this gift of God with love and discipline. God not just freely gave this to us to enjoy but to preserve and take care of them.

Of course, our adventure didn’t stop there. Our next destination was Calinawan Cave.

See you on the continuation of this post!

How about you? When was the last time you had your barkada adventure? 🙂
